BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2015) - On Tuesday, the LIU Post baseball team dropped its final home contest of the 2015 campaign to American International, 6-2, in a non-conference tilt at the LIU Post Baseball Field.

With the Pioneers (17-15) on their East Coast Conference bye week, Head Coach Mike Gaffney sent senior pitcher Mike Curti (Oceanside, N.Y.) to the hill. The righty ran into some trouble early, allowing five runs in the opening frame.

In the bottom of the first though, sophomore catcher Kyle Fagan (Wantagh, N.Y.) drove in red-shirt senior outfielder Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y.) with a sacrifice fly to put LIU Post on the board.

In the second, Fagan again delivered a sacrifice fly, this time scoring junior outfielder John Bellock (Glen Cove, N.Y.) to make it a 5-2 game.

Curti seemed to settle down after the first inning, tossing three straight scoreless frames, until the Yellow Jackets (14-19) plated an unearned run in the fifth.

From there, freshman Dave Anholzer (West Islip, N.Y.) came in and tossed four scoreless innings in his first collegiate appearance. The lefty allowed one hit and walked one, while striking out two.

Freshman Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.), who made his first career start at second base, went 2-for-4. Maccarone, junior first baseman David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.), Bellock and junior designated hitter Steve Teitel (Merrick, N.Y.) also collected hits.

The Pioneers wrap up their regular season on Wednesday (Apr. 29), when they head to Uniondale to take on Division I Hofstra. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. from University Field.
