Valenza, Londot Claim ECC Weekly Volleyball Honors

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2015) - LIU Post volleyball sophomore outside/middle/right-side hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and freshman outside hitter Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) have individually been selected as the East Coast Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The Pioneers went 3-1 this past weekend at the season-opening Bentley Invitational. The three wins all came against regional opposition. LIU Post won a pair of 3-1 decisions over New Haven and Chestnut Hill, sandwiched by a three-game sweep of Bentley.

Valenza, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led all players at the invitational in kills (52) and ranked seventh with a .266 hitting percentage. She recorded a double-double in all three of the Pioneers' victories, led by an 18-kill, 10-dig showing versus UNH. Valenza also posted a 16-dig, 13-kill effort against Bentley, and added a 17-kill, 15-dig performance versus Chestnut Hill.

In her collegiate debut, Londot was LIU Post's top dog behind the service line, collecting a tourney-best 12 aces. Additionally, she placed fifth in kills per set (2.71) and digs per set (3.71) at the invitational, and like Valenza, tallied a double-double in all three Pioneer wins. Over that three-match stretch, Londot racked up 46 digs, 32 kills, 11 aces and six blocks (two solo, four assist).

Valenza, Londot and the Pioneers are back in action Friday (Sept. 11), when they face Salem International University and Shepherd University at the Lock Haven University Tournament in Lock Haven, Pa. The matches are slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
