NEWARK, Del. (Oct. 1, 2016) - The No. 8 LIU Post men's soccer team put up a four-goal first half Saturday in a 4-0 rout of Wilmington University in a non-conference tilt at the Wilmington Athletics Complex.
The Pioneers (9-0) struck for the game's first tally at the 45-second mark. After a turnover in the midfield, senior midfielder
Alex Hailes (Whitchurch, England) played a long ball for sophomore midfielder
Charlie Ledula (London, England), who broke away for the goal.
In the 17th minute, LIU Post doubled its lead. Senior back
Joey Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) headed a
Harry Pearse (London, England) cross into the net, widening the gap to 2-0.
The Pioneers weren't done there. Ledula netted his second goal of the contest in the 23rd minute, and assisted on a 37th-minute tally by Pearse to wrap up the afternoon's scoring.
LIU Post, which outshot Wilmington (6-2) by a 14-7 count in the match, recorded four goals on nine shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Between the pipes, senior goalies
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) and
Brian McPartland (Hicksville, N.Y.) combined to make four saves for the Pioneers. Malmstrom also extended his scoreless streak to 460:14.

Andreas Lindberg and his LIU Post squad return to the pitch next Saturday (Oct. 8), when they travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. for a 3 p.m. opening kick at East Coast Conference foe Mercy College.
