AMHERST, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2016) - The No. 5 LIU Post men's soccer team exploded for seven goals in the first half in an 8-1 rout of Daemen College in an East Coast Conference showdown Sunday at Sweet Home Stadium.
The Pioneers (11-0-1, 4-0-1 ECC) had five different goal-scorers in the opening 45 minutes. Junior back
David Arvidsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and sophomore midfielder
Charlie Ledula (London, England) netted two tallies apiece.
Additionally, junior midfielder
Harry Pearse (London, England), sophomore back/midfielder
Nico Kjaer Andersen (Odense, Denmark) and freshman forward
Gianluca Santacruz (Southampton, N.Y.) each added a goal in the outburst.
LIU Post, which led 7-0 at the break, held an overwhelming 21-0 advantage in shots in the first half.
During the latter session, the Pioneers tacked on another goal. Junior back
Oliver Hollingsaeter (Ålesund, Norway) fired a Santacruz cross into the net in the 55th minute to widen the green and gold's lead to 8-0.
In his second start of 2016, senior goalie
Brian McPartland (Hicksville, N.Y.) recorded six saves for LIU Post. Freshman keeper Steve Geffert (North Rose, N.Y.) turned aside seven shots for Daemen (2-14, 0-8 ECC).
