Women's Swimming Loses at CCSU in 2016-17 Opener, 151-96

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Oct. 22, 2016) - The LIU Post women's swimming team opened the 2016-17 season Saturday with a 151-96 loss to Central Connecticut State University at Jack Suydam Natatorium.
Junior
Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany) won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.79. She also placed second (54.32) in the 100-yard freestyle and led off a 200-yard medley relay that recorded a third-place finish of 1:50.59.
Sophomore
Karis Fuller (London, England) came in first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:43.20) and added a second-place clocking of 5:15.73 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Sophomore
Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) swam second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.25) and raced to third-place showings in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.03) and 400-yard individual medley (4:47.33). Additionally, Johnstone was part of the Pioneers' 400-yard freestyle relay, which finished the race in a second-place time of 3:38.13.
In her first collegiate meet, freshman
Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) took second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.32), 100-yard butterfly (1:01.33) and 200-yard freestyle (1:57.49).
Sophomore
Eline Swensen (Langhus, Norway) touched the pad at a second-place 11:17.02 in the 1,000-free. Fellow sophomore
Brianna LiCausi (Howard Beach, N.Y.) was third (26.07) in the 50-free.
Head Coach
Michael Travers and the Pioneers return to the pool next Saturday (Oct. 29), when they host East Stroudsburg University in their 2016 home opener at 1 p.m. at the Pratt Natatorium in Brookville, N.Y.
