FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2016) - The LIU Post volleyball team kept rolling Friday with a 3-2 win (25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 24-26, 15-8) against East Coast Conference foe Queens College and a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) of Stonehill College at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

LIU Post 3, Queens 2 (25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 24-26, 15-8)
In the opener, LIU Post (5-10, 2-4 ECC) jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first set, behind a pair of service aces from sophomore setter Giulia Genna (Rome, Italy)

The Knights (3-13, 1-5 ECC) later managed to close the gap to 13-11, but the Pioneers pulled away with a 9-3 run to widen their advantage to 22-14. Sophomore middle/right-side hitter Elise Strange (Chesapeake, Va.) and freshman middle/right-side hitter Lea Brady (Woodbridge, Va.) rounded out the streak with back-to-back blocks.

LIU Post then dropped a 25-21 decision in the second set, before bouncing back in the third. Leading 10-9, the green and gold reeled off a 9-4 burst to extend their lead to 19-13. Junior outside/middle/right-side hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) provided two kills in the spurt.

Shortly thereafter, the Pioneers scored the final five points of the set to win by a 25-14 count. Senior middle hitter Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) had two blocks and a kill in the streak, while Valenza slammed down the set-clinching kill.

The match would need five games to declare a winner, and LIU Post cruised to victory in the fifth set. Holding a slight 3-2 edge, the Pioneers put the match away for good with a 10-1 run. Strange contributed three blocks and a kill to pace the green and gold in the burst.

Londot registered a match-best 17 kills, along with 14 digs, for a double-double in the win. Valenza had 10 kills, eight digs and four blocks. Strange and McCullouch put down seven kills apiece. Strange also rejected seven blocks, while McCullouch added five blocks. Genna dished out 36 assists, in addition to accumulating six kills and five digs.

LIU Post 3, Stonehill 0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20)
The Pioneers (6-10) breezed in the nightcap, defeating Stonehill (7-7) in three sets. Londot and Valenza each recorded a match-high-tying 10 kills. McCullouch chipped in nine kills and five blocks. Genna posted a double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs.

Tied 19-19 in a back-and-forth opening set, LIU Post closed out the game on a 6-2 spurt to earn a 25-21 win. Valenza notched the go-ahead kill and added an ace in the run.

In the second set, the Pioneers trailed 21-19, until a 6-1 burst sent the green and gold to a 25-22 victory. Londot accounted for the set-clinching kill in the streak and pitched in a block.

Lastly, in the third set, LIU Post rallied from a three-point deficit (15-12) to secure a 25-20 triumph. A pair of Genna aces and two Londot kills aided the Pioneers in a 12-2 run, which put the green and gold in front 24-17.

Head Coach Amanda Ostapow and her LIU Post squad return to action next Friday (Oct. 14), when they host Saint Anselm College in a non-conference match at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
