BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2016) - On Wednesday, LIU Post men's soccer sophomore midfielder
Charlie Ledula (London, England) was recognized as the 2016 Division 2 Conference Commissioner's Association East Region Player of the Year.
It is the fourth-consecutive year that a Pioneer has garnered the honor. Former standout
Per Forgaard earned the same distinction in 2015, while
Eivind Austboe was named the region's top player in 2013 and 2014.
Ledula, who was selected to the D2CCA All-East Region First Team, leads the East Coast Conference in goals (18), points (42) and game-winning goals (8). He has tallied at least one point in 14 of the team's 19 games this season.
Junior midfielder
Harry Pearse (London, England) and junior back
David Arvidsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) accompanied Ledula on the D2CCA All-East Region First Team.
In 19 games, Pearse has recorded a career-high 32 points, on nine goals and a league-best 14 assists. His 32 points are also the second-most amongst the ECC's leading scorers.
Meanwhile, Arvidsson, the 2016 ECC Defensive Player of the Year, continues to anchor a defensive unit that has limited the opposition to the fewest goals allowed (11) in the league. He has nine points (4 G, 1 A) to his credit this season, as well.
Senior goalkeeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden), red-shirt junior midfielder
Erik Berthagen (Gothenburg, Sweden) and sophomore back/midfielder
Nico Kjaer Andersen (Odense, Denmark) earned spots on the D2CCA All-East Region Second Team.
In his final year with the Pioneers, Malmstrom has compiled a stellar 16-0-1 record with an ECC-best 0.45 goals-against average and .844 save percentage. Additionally, he has not let up a goal in his last 459:42.
Berthagen has assisted the LIU Post defense in holding opponents to a league-low 11 goals in 2016, and twice found the back of the net in the process. One of those goals was the game-tying tally in a 3-3 draw at Mercy on Oct. 8.
Andersen has collected two goals and 10 assists for 14 points this season. His 10 helpers rank second-most in the conference, three of which came in an 8-1 win against St. Thomas Aquinas in the ECC Championship semifinals on Nov. 3.
The Pioneers are back in action Thursday (Nov. 17), when they face No. 7 and second-seeded Adelphi University in the third round of the NCAA Division II Championship. The opening kick is set for 1 p.m.
