Women's Swimming Drops 101-98 Decision to Bridgeport

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2016) 
- The LIU Post women's swimming team lost a tough 101-98 decision to University of Bridgeport on Saturday at the Pratt Natatorium.

Junior Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany) won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, after touching the pad at respective times of 24.43 and 53.45. She also swam the anchor leg of the Pioneers' (1-2) 400-yard medley relay, which placed first at 3:57.04.

Sophomore Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) raced past her opposition in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.77) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.14).

Freshman Cassie St. Angelo (Wakefield, R.I.) clocked a lifetime-best 2:11.77 in the 200-yard backstroke, en route to a second-place showing. Fellow freshman Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) finished second in the 100- (54.32) and 200-free (1:56.89).

Freshman Elizabeth Law (Chester Springs, Pa.) added a second-place time of 2:17.56 in the 200-yard butterfly. Junior Jacqueline Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) was second (2:32.19) in the 200-breast.

Sophomores Karis Fuller (London, England) and Eline Swensen (Langhus, Norway) individually came in second in the 500- (5:10.83) and 1,000-yard freestyle (11:04.69). Additionally, Swensen teamed up with sophomore Elin Kvarnemar (Varberg, Sweden), freshman Jessica Argelander (La Verne, Calif.) and St. Angelo for a second-place finish (1:42.21) in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Head Coach Michael Travers and his LIU Post squad return to the pool on Friday, Nov. 18 for the start of the three-day Frank Elm Invitational, hosted by Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J.
