Women's Lacrosse to Honor 2007 Championship Team on Saturday

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2016) - On Saturday, Head Coach Meghan McNamara and the LIU Post women's lacrosse team will honor the 10-year anniversary of the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championship team at the Pratt Recreation Center.

The ceremony will take place at halftime of the Pioneers' men's basketball game against New York Institute of Technology at 4 p.m.

That year, LIU Post hoisted the program's second national title with a decisive 15-7 win against West Chester University. The Pioneers also completed the first undefeated season in the school's history at 17-0.

Led by Lauren Scipione between the pipes, the green and gold allowed the fewest goals (96) of any team in Division II. Additionally, Scipione led the nation in goals-against average (5.26) and ranked second in save percentage (.574).

Meanwhile, Shannon Fabian, who was named the ECC Player of the Year and IWLCA Attacker of the Year, broke the career assists record for Division II and tallied a team-leading 93 points (44 G, 49 A) in the process.

"The 2007 National Championship team is a special group of women that came to LIU Post to do it all," said McNamara. "They came together to defeat all odds and sacrificed their time to be great."

McNamara later added: "This group was very unique and driven to do the unthinkable, which was to win a national championship. We are thrilled to have these champions back in one room and celebrate their success."
