EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (Dec. 2, 2016)
- On Friday, the LIU Post women's swimming team won the opening two events at the 2016 ECAC Winter Swimming and Diving Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park.

The Pioneers' 200-yard medley relay team of junior Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), sophomores Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) and Elin Kvarnemar (Varberg, Sweden) and freshman Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) led off the three-day meet with a winning time of 1:46.66.

Then, in the 1,650-yard freestyle, sophomores Karis Fuller (London, England) and Eline Swensen (Langhus, Norway) took the top two spots on the podium.

Fuller won the event in 17:31.47, which was good for an NCAA "B" cut. She also shattered her own school record in the 1,000-free with a split of 10:17.97.

Meanwhile, Swensen finished second, after touching the pad at 17:46.11. Additionally, she swam a personal-best in her 1,000-yard split, clocking a 10:29.34.

Head Coach Michael Travers and his LIU Post squad return to the pool Saturday (Dec. 3) for Day Two of the 2016 ECAC Winter Swimming and Diving Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
