BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 8, 2016) - The LIU Post women's swimming team recently announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2017-18 season.
The Pioneers' Class of 2021 will include
Britney Caprio (Palm Harbor, Fla.),
Alex Cordova (Roseville, Calif.),
Gena Mendez (Normal, Ill.),
Allison Schillick (San Antonio, Texas) and
Dominique Vaccani (Gahanna, Ohio).
"We are extremely excited for this incoming freshmen class," Head Coach
Michael Travers stated. "I am so happy to welcome these five very talented young women to the LIU Post swimming family. We set a high bar to bring in as many athletes as we could by the first NLI signing period, and are very pleased with our progress so far. All five of our incoming freshmen -- Alex, Alison, Britney, Dominique and Gena -- will add great depth to our program."

Name: Britney Caprio
Hometown/High School: Palm Harbor, Fla. / Palm Harbor University
Career Highlights: Four-year varsity swimmer at Palm Harbor University High School ... Four-Time Most Outstanding Swimmer Award recipient ... Placed seventh in the 100-yard backstroke at the FHSAA Championships ... Also posted a qualifying time in the 100-back for the NCSA Championships ... Qualified four times for the YMCA Long Course National Championships.
Travers on Caprio: "Britney is a versatile swimmer, who we are looking at to add depth to our backstroke, sprint freestyle and individual medley events. She could be a breakout swimmer, and we really look forward to seeing what she can do next year."
Name: Alex Cordova
Hometown/High School: Roseville, Calif. / Oakmont
Career Highlights: Four-year varsity swimmer at Oakmont High School ... Three-Time All-Capital Valley Conference and Most Valuable Player selection ... Three-Time CVC Champion in 100-yard backstroke ... Holds one school record ... Her personal-best of 1:00.38 in the 100-back is just over half a second off the program mark, held by former Olympic medalist Summer Sanders ... Helped lead Oakmont to its first League title in over 19 years.
Travers on Cordova: "Alex has an impressive background in distance, butterfly and backstroke events. Her versatility is a huge asset to our program, and we are excited to see where she ends up specializing as a collegiate athlete."

Hometown/High School: Normal, Ill. / University
Career Highlights: Competes for the varsity swimming team at University High School ... Broke the school's records in the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay ... Named Most Valuable Swimmer in her junior year ... Three-Time WJBC Radio Athlete of the Week.
Travers on Mendez: "Gena is one of the most well-rounded recruits that we have seen in a while. She can swim anything from distance freestyle to sprint fly. Gena will add a ton of depth to our program, and we are very excited to see where she ends up on a meet lineup next fall."

Name: Allison Schillick
Hometown/High School: San Antonio, Texas / Taft
Career Highlights: Swims for the varsity program at William Howard Taft High School ... 2016 All-State selection in the 50-yard freestyle ... Earned All-Region honors in the 50-free and 100-back as a junior ... Owns the school record in the 50-free ... Three-Time Academic All-American ... Also plays water polo for the Raiders and won regional titles in 2015 and 2016.
Travers on Schillick: "Allison was the latest of the first wave of recruits, and we couldn't be happier to have her on board. She specialist as a sprinter, and will be a great asset on many of our relay teams and in sprint events. We look forward to seeing how Allison can excel for our program."

Hometown/High School: Gahanna, Ohio / Gahanna Lincoln
Career Highlights: Four-year varsity swimmer at Gahanna Lincoln High School ... Named Team Captain ... Broke one school record ... Helped the Lions to three-straight Ohio Capital Conference Championships ... Three-Time Division I District Qualifier.
Travers on Vaccani: "Dominique was the first of our recruits to verbally commit to LIU Post. She first caught our attention with her near-perfect grades, but also shows tremendous potential in sprint freestyle events. We look forward to seeing how she adds to our sprint program."
