PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 19, 2016) - On Friday, the LIU Post women's swimming team won four of five events and clocked 11 NCAA qualifying times, as it opened up competition at the 2016 Metropolitan Conference Championships at the Rutgers University Aquatic Center.
The Pioneers wasted no time making an impression, breaking a school record in the first event of the evening. The group of seniors
Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.),
Seren Jones (Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom) and
Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) and sophomore
Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany) bested their opposition by more than two seconds, touching the pad at a winning and automatic qualifying time of 1:32.03 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Kwok later contributed a first-place effort and an NCAA "B" cut in the 200 IM (2:04.36), while freshman
Karis Fuller (London, England) came in third in the same event at 2:09.59.
In the 50-free, four different swimmers tallied provisional marks for the green and gold. Brazier, who earlier shattered the school record in the preliminaries (23.42), led the way with a first-place 23.02.
Bendfeldt followed in fifth, racing to a 23.67 clocking. Jones and freshman
Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) individually placed sixth and seventh with lifetime-bests 23.80 and 24.00.
