BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 1, 2016) - Behind a career-high seven goals from junior attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), the No. 5/9 LIU Post women's lacrosse team routed Nyack College, 21-0, in its 2016 opener Tuesday afternoon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Her seven-goal output was Vagelatos' highest since Mar. 12, 2015, when she notched five goals in a 12-9 win over Bentley University. Senior attacker Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.) tied her career-best with a nine-point showing (3 G, 6 A).

In her collegiate debut, freshman midfielder Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) tallied five points (2 G, 3 A). Senior defender/midfielder Honey Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) and junior defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) earned six draws apiece. They also caused five and three turnovers, respectively.

Following a scoreless four-plus minutes to open the game, the Pioneers (1-0) exploded offensively, converting 15 goals on 24 shots on net in the first half. Then, in the latter period, LIU Post kept up the intensity, netting six tallies on eight shots on goal.

In addition to her nine-point day, Delaney scooped up six ground balls. Senior attacker Jessica Marsh (Sayville, N.Y.) registered two goals. Freshman midfielder Mackenzie Hitchcock (Medina, Ohio) chipped in a goal and an assist in the victory.

Between the pipes, sophomore goalie Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made four saves in 55 minutes of action. Senior cageminder Kasey Kephart (Nesconset, N.Y.) stopped one shot in the final five minutes to preserve the shutout.

For the contest, the Pioneers dominated the Warriors (0-2) in shots (34-5), ground balls (29-11) and draw controls (18-5). Furthermore, LIU Post was a near-perfect 9-of-10 (90.0 percent) on clears and 2-of-4 on free-position attempts.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and the Pioneers continue their season-opening three-game homestand Saturday (Mar. 6), when they face No. 2/2 Le Moyne College in a non-conference tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at noon.
