BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 5, 2016) - In a Top-5 nationally-ranked showdown, the No. 5/9 LIU Post women's lacrosse team lost to second-ranked Le Moyne College by a score of 7-5 on Saturday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Trailing 4-0 late in the first half, junior defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) got the Pioneers (1-1) on the board with 8:44 remaining, making it a three-goal game at the break.

During the second half, the Dolphins (2-0) regained their four-goal advantage (6-2) nearly five minutes in, before LIU Post started to mount a comeback.

Senior attacker Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.) and junior attacker Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) scored less than a minute apart to close the gap to 6-4 at the 16:35 mark.

The green and gold never got any closer though, as Le Moyne held LIU Post to just two shots on goal for the remainder of the contest.

Delaney had a game-high-tying three points (1 G, 2 A) in the loss. Senior defender/midfielder Honey Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) collected two draws, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Between the pipes, sophomore goaltender Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made a game-best seven saves.

For the game, the Pioneers owned a 12-9 edge in ground balls, and were successful on 13-of-16 (81.2 percent) clear attempts.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad return to action Tuesday (Mar. 8), when they host Assumption College in a non-conference tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at 1 p.m.
