Women's Lacrosse Stays Fifth, Ninth in IWLCA, LaxMag Polls

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 7, 2016) - Following a 1-1 start to the year, the LIU Post women's lacrosse team held still at No. 5 and 9 in Monday's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Division II polls, respectively.

The Pioneers opened the 2016 campaign with a flourish last Tuesday, shutting out Nyack College, 21-0. Junior attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored a career-high seven goals in the win, while senior attacker Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.) tied her career-high with six assists, as part of a game-best nine-point effort.

Then, on Saturday, LIU Post lost a close 7-5 decision to No. 2 Le Moyne College. Sophomore goalie Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made a game-high seven saves in the effort.

The top four programs in both polls remained unchanged for a third-straight week. Adelphi University stood pat atop the tally, followed by Le Moyne (No. 2), Lindenwood University (No. 3) and University of New Haven (No. 4).

The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday (Mar. 8), when they wrap up their season-opening three-game homestand against Assumption College at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at 1 p.m.
