DANBURY, Conn. (Jun. 9, 2016) - Senior attacker
Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.) and sophomore goalie
Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) of the LIU Post women's lacrosse team have individually been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year for 2016, it was announced Tuesday.
Delaney was an offensive force for the Pioneers, tallying 45 goals and 54 assists for a career-high and East Coast Conference-leading 99 points. Her assist and point totals both ranked in the Top-10 in Division II.
Delaney went on to earn East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year distinction and a spot on the IWLCA All-America First Team. She was also recognized to the IWLCA All-North Region First Team and added to the watch list for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award, which is presented annually to the top collegiate lacrosse player in the nation.
Kirk, the 2016 ECC and IWLCA Division II Goalkeeper of the Year, owned a 17-4 record with a 4.50 goals-against average and Division II-best .580 save percentage. Her 4.50 GAA was tops in the ECC and second-lowest in the country, as well.
Furthermore, Kirk, who allowed the fewest goals (87) and made the fifth-most saves (120) in the league this season, was selected to the All-ECC, IWLCA All-North Region and IWLCA All-America First Team.
Junior defender/midfielder
Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) rounded out LIU Post's representation on the ECAC All-Star First Team. She led the league in caused turnovers (46) and placed second amongst the ECC's ground ball leaders with 51. As a result, Douglas received All-ECC first-team and IWLCA All-North Region and All-America second-team praise.
Lastly, senior defender/midfielder
Honey Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) was tabbed as an ECAC All-Star second-team selection. She had a career-best 39 points (25 goals, 14 assists) in 2016, while amassing 68 draw controls, 38 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers. Roche's efforts led to All-ECC, IWLCA All-North Region and IWLCA All-America first-team nods.
