Backus, Gaghan, Smith Chosen to IWLCA Academic Honor Roll

GRAND LAKE, Colo. (Jul. 30, 2016) - On Friday, three members of the LIU Post women's lacrosse team were selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association/Zag Sports Division II Academic Honor Roll.

Senior defenders Kaitlin Gaghan (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and Brittany Smith (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and junior defender Kelly Backus (Oceanside, N.Y.) represented the Pioneers on the ledger.

To be eligible for the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a junior, senior or graduate student with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or greater.

The trio of honorees spearheaded an LIU Post defensive unit in 2016 that had the second-lowest goals-against average (4.33) in Division II.

Additionally, Smith, who served as the team's top mark-up defender, was named the East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned IWLCA All-America first-team praise.
