BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2016) - The No. 8 LIU Post men's soccer team overcame a one-goal halftime deficit Tuesday to beat Philadelphia University, 2-1, in overtime at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The Pioneers (7-0) trailed 1-0 at the break, after a cross from Hunter Dyson (Broomall, Pa.) deflected off the foot of
Johan Mauritzson (Halmstad, Sweden) and into the net for an own goal.
In the latter half, LIU Post, which outshot Philadelphia (1-4-1) by a 25-5 count in the match, tied the score in the 70th minute. Junior back
Oliver Hollingsaeter (Alesund, Norway) headed a
Nico Kjaer Andersen (Odense, Denmark) cross past Rams' junior goalie Eric Gutierrez (Croydon, Pa.) for the equalizer.
The Pioneers then managed to win the contest in overtime. Nearly halfway through the period, Andersen sent a cross from the right corner into the box, where sophomore midfielder
Charlie Ledula (London, England) headed the ball into the right corner of the mesh for the game-winner.
In his first start of the year, senior netminder
Brian McPartland (Hicksville, N.Y.) had three saves for LIU Post. Gutierrez turned aside four shots for Philadelphia.
Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers close out a four-game homestand on Saturday (Sept. 24), when they host East Coast Conference foe University of Bridgeport at 2:30 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park.
