NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (Jan. 14, 2017) - The No. 22 LIU Post women's swimming team opened up the New Year on Saturday with a convincing 122-80 win over Siena College at Niskayuna High School.
The Pioneers won 10 of 11 events against the Saints (3-5), en route to improving to 2-2 on the year.
The green and gold led off the day with a first-place showing in the 400-yard medley relay. Junior
Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), sophomores
Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) and
Elin Kvarnemar (Varberg, Sweden) and freshman
Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) swam to a winning time of 4:05.82.
Bendfeldt also raced to first-place finishes in the 50- (24.85) and 100-yard freestyle (54.19), while Johnstone came in first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.22) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.47).
Sparrman won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.62 and added a second-place clocking of 56.11 in the 100-free. Sophomore
Brianna LiCausi (Howard Beach, N.Y.) placed third in the 100-free (56.67).

Karis Fuller (London, England) touched the pad at respective first-place times of 2:08.04 and 10:51.20 in the 200-yard backstroke and 1,000-yard freestyle.

Eline Swensen (Langhus, Norway) swam a first-place time of 5:24.33 in the 500-yard freestyle and finished third (2:03.01) in the 200-free.

Jacqueline Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) and freshman
Jessica Argelander (La Verne, Calif.) each contributed third-place efforts in the victory. Tonn clocked a 2:35.21 in the 200-breast. Argelander recorded a time of 26.20 in the 50-free.
In the final event of the meet, the team of LiCausi, Swensen, Fuller and Kvarnemar captured top billing in the 200-yard freestyle relay, after sprinting to the wall in 1:43.23.

Michael Travers and his LIU Post squad return to the pool on Friday (Jan. 20), when they host New York University in a 1 p.m. matinee at the Pratt Natatorium in Brookville.
