No. 22 Women's Swimming Loses to NYU, 118.5-71.5

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 20, 2017) - On Friday, the No. 22 LIU Post women's swimming team fell by a 118.5-71.5 decision to New York University at the Pratt Natatorium.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-3 on the year. Meanwhile, the Violets, who entered the meet at No. 7 in the CSCAA Division III Poll, improved to 8-0 overall.
Junior
Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany) raced to winning times of 24.35 and 52.91 in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, respectively. Additionally, she swam the opening leg of the 200-yard medley relay, which placed first at 1:47.94.
Sophomore
Karis Fuller (London, England) had a pair of first-place showings in the 500- (5:08.47) and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:22.07). Fellow sophomore
Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) came in second in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley, after recording individual marks of 1:07.94 and 2:14.56.
In the 100-yard butterfly, freshman
Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) touched the pad at 1:01.12, which was good for a third-place effort.
Meanwhile, sophomore
Elin Kvarnemar (Varberg, Sweden) earned a third-place finish (59.82) in the 100-yard backstroke. She also led off a 200-yard freestyle relay that clocked a third-place time of 1:42.35.
Head Coach
Michael Travers and his LIU Post squad are back in action Saturday (Jan. 21), when they travel to Worcester, Mass. for a 1 p.m. dual meet at Assumption College.
