No. 22 Women's Swimming Falls at Assumption, 134-125

WORCESTER, Mass. (Jan. 21, 2017) - The No. 22 LIU Post women's swimming team came up short Saturday in a 134-125 loss to Assumption College at the Plourde Recreation Center in Worcester.
Despite falling to 2-4 overall in dual meets, the Pioneers shattered three pool records against the Greyhounds.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of junior
Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), sophomore
Eline Swensen (Langhus, Norway) and freshmen
Jessica Argelander (La Verne, Calif.) and
Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) came in first at 3:41.44.
Additionally, Bendfeldt sprinted to pool-best times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. Her individual marks of 24.90 and 53.57 were good for first-place finishes.
Sparrman won the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle, after touching the pad at 1:01.17 and 1:59.89, respectively. She also swam the third leg of the visitors' 400-yard medley relay, which won the race in 4:00.66.
Sophomore
Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) bested her opposition in the 100- (1:08.06) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.98) and 400-yard individual medley (4:43.05).
In the long-distance races, Swensen earned a second-place finish (5:24.18) in the 500-yard freestyle, while sophomore
Karis Fuller (London, England) was second in the 1,000-free at 10:57.80.
Sophomore
Brianna LiCausi (Howard Beach, N.Y.), Argelander and freshman
Cassie St. Angelo (Wakefield, R.I.) each placed third in their respective events. LiCausi recorded a 56.52 in the 100-free. Argelander swam to a 26.29 in the 50-free. St. Angelo clocked a 1:03.31 in the 100-back.
Sophomore
Elin Kvarnemar (Varberg, Sweden) took fourth in the 100- (1:03.37) and 200-yard backstroke (2:15.55). Junior
Jacqueline Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) added a fourth-place showing (2:36.19) in the 200-breast.
Head Coach
Michael Travers and his LIU Post squad return to the pool next Saturday (Jan. 28), when they host Kutztown University in their 2016-17 home finale at the Pratt Natatorium at 1 p.m.
