BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 28, 2017) - On Saturday, the No. 22 LIU Post women's swimming team cruised to a 126-115 victory against Kutztown University in its 2016-17 home finale at the Pratt Natatorium in Brookville.
The Pioneers finished first in 13 of 14 events on the day, en route to improving to 3-4 overall.
Sophomore
Karis Fuller (London, England) led the way with a record-breaking time in the 1,650-yard freestyle. She won the event and shattered her own school mark in the process with a time of 17:20.04. Additionally, Fuller bested her opposition in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking a 2:04.70.
Meanwhile, junior
Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany) and sophomore
Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) each took first in a pair of events. Bendfeldt swam winning times in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke, touching the pad at 52.16 and 1:07.92, respectively. Johnstone captured top billing in the 50-free (24.92) and 200-breast (2:26.59).
Sophomore
Elin Kvarnemar (Varberg, Sweden) came in first (59.69) in the 100-yard backstroke and added a second-place time of 2:08.41 in the 200-back. Freshman
Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) raced to a winning mark of 1:54.72 in the 200-yard freestyle, and sprinted to a second-place showing (52.93) in the 100-free.
Sophomore
Eline Swensen (Langhus, Norway) made it to the wall in a winning time of 5:23.18 in the 500-yard freestyle. She also contributed a second-place clocking of 18:21.08 in the 1,650-free.
In the 200-yard individual medley, junior
Jacqueline Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) clocked a 2:16.57, which was good for a first-place finish. She placed second in the 100- (1:08.71) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.94), as well.
Freshman
Cassie St. Angelo (Wakefield, R.I.) won the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.27), while placing third in the 200-back at 2:18.52. Freshman
Jessica Argelander (La Verne, Calif.) followed Bendfeldt in second in the 50-free (26.56).
In the relay events, the team of Bendfeldt, Johnstone, Sparrman and sophomore
Brianna LiCausi (Howard Beach, N.Y.), who was third in the 100-free (53.54), touched the pad at a first-place time of 1:46.92 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Then, in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the group of Sparrman, St. Angelo, Argelander and freshman
Elizabeth Law (Chester Springs, Pa.) finished first, after clocking a 1:41.81.
Head Coach
Michael Travers and his LIU Post squad return to action Saturday (Feb. 4), when they travel into Manhattan to swim at the New York University Invitational at the Palladium Athletic Facility.
