Garden City N.Y. – Junior Tarryn Morris scored the match's only goal in the 26th minute as the fifth-ranked LIU Post women's field hockey team earned a narrow 1-0 victory on the road vs. Adelphi University in NE-10 Conference action on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Pioneers improve to 13-2 on the year and 6-2 in conference play as the Panthers fall to 6-9 (4-5 NE10).

LIU carried the pace of play early and generated the game's first three shots before Morris struck in the 26th minute. Freshman Sammy Bell slotted a pass from the right side for a waiting Morris, who redirected the ball into the back of the goal. The Pioneers outshot the hosts 4-2 in the first half and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

LIU Post would generate 10 shots to Adelphi's three in the second half, forcing Panthers' keeper Amanda Gargiulo into making five saves in the frame. In the end, the Pioneers could not find an insurance goal, but it was enough as LIU post won its sixth-straight game.

Rachel Vellis (13-2) earned her fifth career shutout and tallied three saves in a match that saw her side outshot the hosts 14-5.

The Pioneers continue NE10 play on Saturday, October 21 when they head up to Manchester, N.H. to face Saint Anselm College at 1 p.m. Follow the action with live stats here.
