Manchester, N.H. – Despite taking the 2-1 lead in the 45th minute, the No. 5 LIU Post field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to NE-10 rival No. 4 Saint Anselm in Grappone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Pioneers slide to 13-3 (7-3 NE10) on the year as the Hawks improve to 15-1 (9-1 NE10).
After a scoreless first half that saw the hosts outshoot the Pioneers 5-1, the Hawks came flying out the gates in the second half and opened the scoring in the 38th minute when a deflected shot found the stick of Hannah Friend, who buried into the back of the goal for the 1-0 lead. Nearly four minutes later,
Kaycee Zelkovsky brought the Pioneers level when she took a pass from
Kate Melvin and slotted the ball from the top of the arc for the equalizer.
In the 45th minute,
Alyssa Lopresti got the go-ahead goal for the Pioneers when secured a pass from
Emily Miller and rifled a ball from just inside the circle for the 2-1 lead.
Tallies by Emma Kincaid (50') and Abby Walker (52') put the Hawks ahead 3-1 and ensured the two-goal defeat.
Rachel Vellis was forced to make six saves in the contest, four of which came from St. Anselm's five shot in the first half, compared to Julia Hand's zero.
