Brookville, NY| Four of LIU Post's fall athletics teams will represent the Pioneers in the 2017 NCAA Championship Tournament, while one (women's volleyball) seeks it first ECC Championship title in program history. All five team enter the postseason with the same goal: To take home an NCAA Division II championship. First to play will be the No. 4 and first-seeded men's soccer team who will compete against Long Island rival Adelphi University on Nov. 16. Followed by three matchups the following day (Nov. 17): women's soccer vs. Mercy College, field hockey against Millersville University, women's volleyball vs. NYIT. Additionally, Talya Williams of the women's cross country team will represent LIU Post in the DII NCAA National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18.
Men's Soccer
The Pioneers men's soccer squad (17-0-2) finished the season with an 8-0-1 ECC record earning the top-seed in the tournament and picked up back-to-back shutout victories to claim its third-straight Conference Title. After earning the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Championship Tournament, the Pioneers bypassed the first round, earning an automatic bid into the second round, where they faced UDC for the third time this season and came up on top 2-1. They now travel to Charleston, West Virginia to take on Adelphi University on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
Graduate forward Lukas Ostermann has been a driving force on the men's team, leading the Pioneers with 17 goals and 40 points this season. Follow the action live here
Field Hockey
The top-seeded LIU Post field hockey team seeks its revenge against Millersville this Friday. The last time the two team met, back in 2014, the Marauders bested the Pioneers 1-0 in the National Championship game. The Pioneers, 18-3, entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed after taking down Saint Anselm 3-2 in overtime before cruising to a 4-1 win over Assumption to pick up their second-straight NE10 title. Led by head coach Raenee Savin, the Pioneers are no stranger to the NCAA Tournament making seven appearances, and reaching the final in three of those appearances. The two sides will meet in the Final Four on Friday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m., catch the action live here.
Earlier this season junior forward Emily Miller tallied a career-high six goals against Merrimack in the first round of the NE10 Tournament, breaking the program's single-season goal record and is currently four points away from breaking the program's single-season points record. The Bridgewater, NJ native ranked second in the conference and the nation in goals (37).
Women's Soccer
The fourth-seeded LIU Post women's soccer team defeated top-seeded Adelphi University in Garden City, NY on Nov. 17. With the win the Pioneers, 17-3-1, advance to the NCAA East Regional final where they'll meet the tournament's second seed, Mercy College. The two sides have met twice before where the Pioneers took the first leg of the series, 2-0, but fell to the Mavericks in the ECC Championship Final 3-0. LIU Post travels to take on the Mavericks on their home turf on Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
This fall, sophomore Julia Duffy leads a balanced side where she's accounted for LIU Post's 10 of their 54 goals this season. She is tied for the lead in points (23) with junior Andrea Huntzinger who has tallied nine goals and five assists this year. Follow the action here!
Women's Volleyball
Finishing with a 28-4 overall record, and a 12-2 mark in ECC play, the Pioneers claimed a share of the ECC regular season title – a first in program history. The LIU Post women's volleyball team, who is ranked no. 1 in the region – another program first – will travel to Rockville Centre, NY to take on the NYIT Bears in the semifinal round of the ECC Championship. LIU Post's team standouts include senior libero Indira Rojas, who is second in the conference in digs; top-ranked blocks leader junior Leah Brady; and junior Rachel Londot, ranked third in the conference in kills.
Women's Cross Country
The three-time ECC Runner of the Year and LIU Post's most prolific women's runner, Talya Williams will represent her team in the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships. Williams, who is the record holder for top 5k times, earned a bid to the Championships after placing in fourth in a 173 runners. Currently, she is she is only one of two individual athletes to qualify for the championship out of the Northeast Regional Meet. Williams will travel to the Division II Cross Country National Championship in Evansville, IN on Saturday, November 18.
