Charleston, W.Va. | For the third time in four years, the top-seeded LIU Post men's soccer team won the NCAA Division II East Region title, after knocking off second-seeded Adelphi University, 3-0, on Thursday night.
In a re-match of last year's regional final, LIU Post (18-0-2) moves on to the Elite 8, while the Panthers conclude their season (14-3-2).
Junior Charlie Ledula opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, when he took on the Panthers' defenders by himself and finished for the game-winner.
LIU Post continued its torrid pace and delivered four minutes later on a corner when senior Harry Pearse's set piece found Vittorio Argeri, who struck it home from the second goal of the contest.
Harnessing early second-half momentum, the Pioneers went up 3-0 in the 65th minute with graduate forward Lukas Ostermann's 18th goal of the year that came via a cross off the foot of Argeri.
LIU Post's keeper Oliver Hessner Hansen (15-0-2) made six saves in the match and posted his eighth shutout of the season.
In a match that saw LIU Post edge out its opponent 12-11 in shots, the Pioneers forced AU starting keeper Raymond Leto into making three saves.
Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers will now play third-ranked University of Charleston on Saturday (Nov. 18) at 1 p.m. at the Golden Eagles' Schoenbaum Stadium. Watch the action live here.
