West Haven, Conn.| The LIU Post men's basketball team slipped to 3-7 on the year on Wednesday night with an 81-60 road defeat to non-conference opponent University of New Haven.
Sophomore Jared Rivers shot 8-for-17 from the field and led the Pioneers in points with 23. Senior
Aary Bibens contributed with 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
LIU Post took an early 11-4 lead 3:14 into the contest and led by as many as nine points (18-9) halfway through the first. The hosts took control through the first half's final eight minutes sparking a 27-5 run that would give the Chargers a 36-23 advantage into the break.
Nearly five minutes into the second half LIU Post shaved a point off its halftime deficit (45-33), but ultimately it was New Haven that took a stranglehold of the contest, going up 22 points (78-56) with 2:30 to play in regulation before taking down the Pioneers 81-60.
Outshot 57.1% to 41.4%, LIU Post only statistical victory came at the charity stripe where the Pioneers held a major advantage (100%-41.7%).
Paramount to New Haven's win was its points off turnovers, where the Chargers outscored LIU Post 22-4 and grabbed 32 rebounds to LIU Post's 30.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, December 16 hosting Northern Blvd. rival NYIT in game one of the Battle of the Boulevard inside the Pratt Center at 3:30 PM. Live video and stats will be available
