Women’s Bowling Finishes in Sixth at Wilmington Invitational

New Castle, Del | The LIU Post women's bowling team earned two wins but drop the final game to finish sixth overall at the 2017 Wildcat DII/DII Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Bowlerama.

The LIU Post women's bowling  team went 2-3 in Baker Matches and sit in eight place in total pinfall at the Wildcat DII-DIII Invitational hosted by Wilmington University at Bowlerama on Friday afternoon.

The Pioneers knocked down 4,020 pins in five matches, averaging 160.8 pins per match to finish eighth of 12 teams. The Pioneers started the day with a win over Penn State University – Altoona before falling to Medaille college, Chestnut Hill College, and No. 15 Adelphi College. The Pioneers capped off the first day with a win over University of Pittsburgh – Bradford.

In its first match of the day, LIU Post defeated Penn State, sweeping the Lions with a game high 182 in the fourth match. The Pioneers dropped their next match to Medaille by the score of 777-858, before falling to ECC opponent Chestnut Hill 854-718.

The Pioneers produced their best match against No. 15 Adelphi, bowling a 201 in the second match, but fell to the Panther 876-914.

In the final match of the day, LIU bounced back with a 873-774 win over the University of Pittsburgh- Bradford.

The Pioneers started the day in eight place, but won both of their matches to play for the fifth/sixth place spot in the final standings. LIU Post were swept by Medaille College, 4-0, to fall into sixth place.

The Pioneers knocked down 10,853 pins in 66 matches, averaging 164.4 pins per match to finish eighth of 12 teams.In the first match, additionally LIU Post bowled a team-best 944 series. LIU Post picked up a 4-1 win over the hosts Wilmington University, and doubled its win total defeating Felician University 4-3 in the Baker best-of-seven match format.

The Pioneers finished 7-6 in the tournament, finishing sixth place in the 12-team invitational with 11.031 total pin-fall in the three days. In 66 games played, the Pioneers averaged 164.4 pins per match.

In the second game against Felician, down 3-2, the Pioneers were able to force a game seven with a 195-188 sixth frame victory. In the seventh game LIU Post matched a game-best 200 pins to advance to the sixth/seventh place match.

Nationally ranked Adelphi took the tournament with a perfect 13-0 head-to-head record, knocking down 12,031 total pins for a 179.6 average. Kutztown finished 8-5 overall with a second place finish, averaging 177.7 pins per match in 69 games. Chestnut Hill rounded out the Top 3 teams with an 11-3 head-to-head record, knocking down an average of 173.3 pins per match.

Overall, the Pioneers were led by Emily Cavanaugh who averaged 177 for the weekend and just missed making the All-Tournament team, finishing in sixth place out of 77 competitors, and Patricia Kelly, averaging 166 and leading the Pioneers during the first day of competition.  Alexis Kosakavich, Sarah Busse, and Pamela Penso had strong showings as well and all had significant contributions to the Pioneers excellent showing this weekend. 

The Pioneers will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 21 at the Westchester Community College Invitational.
