BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Despite game-high points from
Aary Bibens and Darien Jenkins, the LIU Post men's basketball team fell 93-83 to Concordia (N.Y.) in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Two more Pioneers tallied double-figure points with Kyle Taylor-McLeggan and Austin Kennedy recording 16 and 10 points, respectively. Bibens tabbed a double-double with 10 rebounds to his 20 points and Kyle Doucette tied the game-high 10 boards.
LIU Post led from both the charity stripe (93.3% to 72.7%) and on the boards (35-32).
The Clippers climbed to a 12-point lead, 17-5, on back-to-back three-pointers from Michael Demello with 13:41 on the clock. Yet, sparked by a jumper from Taylor-McLeggan, who had 10 points in the first half, the home squad narrowed the gap to just two points, 17-15, off a three-pointer by Bibens with 9:58 to go. However, LIU Post could not find an equalizer and the teams headed into the break with Concordia commanding a 14-point window, 42-28.
The Pioneers struggled to cut the deficit in the second half as the visitors extended their lead to 16 points, their largest of the game, 60-44 with 11:43 to play. Concordia's charge was led by 19 points from Brandon Fields. With 5:15 remaining, a pair of free throws from Taylor-McLeggan made it a five-point game, 70-65. That was the closest the Pioneers would get as the Clippers held on for the 93-83 win.
For Concordia, Stephen Milhaven had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Clippers narrowly out-shot the Pioneers 55.6% to 43.9%.
LIU Post returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 31 with a 1 p.m. tip-off against the Skyhawks of Stonehill College.
