BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The LIU Post men's basketball team fell 88-67 to Stonehill College in a New Year's Eve contest. The Skyhawks improved to 7-5 on the season, while the Pioneers dropped to 4-9 overall.

Darien Jenkins led LIU Post with 24 points and Aary Bibens chipped in with 14. Kyle Doucette and Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor rounded out the Pioneers top scorers with 10 points each. 

LIU Post scored the majority of its points on second-chance opportunities (23-6) and off the bench (34-11). The Pioneers also held a +5 rebounding advantage and out-shot the Skyhawks at the charity stripe, 86% to 75%. 

The home squad jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead at the start of the contest; however, the Skyhawks took flight with 27 unanswered points to claim a 31-8 advantage with 11:11 to play. The visitors maintained a double-point edge over LIU Post until the 3:05 mark after 11 straight points from Jenkins cut the gap to seven, 39-32. LIU Post had 22 of its points come off the bench in the first half, including 13 from Jenkins, as they trailed 41-32 heading into the break. 

The Pioneers continued to chip away at Stonehill's lead and with back-to-back layups from Doucette and a deuce by Jenkins at 12:54, the Green and Gold got as close as a five-point deficit, 51-46. However, the Skyhawks retained the upperhand and pushed to tie their game-high lead of 23-points, 77-54 with 4:19 to play.

Will Moreton led the Skyhawks with a game-high 33 points, while KJ Lee notched the game's only double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 3 on the road against Molloy College. Tip-off in the East Coast Conference match-up is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
