NEW YORK, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2017)
- On Saturday, the LIU Post women's swimming team competed at the New York University Invitational at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

The Pioneers led off the day with a winning time in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of junior Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), sophomores Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) and Brianna LiCausi (Howard Beach, N.Y.) and freshman Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) completed the race in 1:49.10.

Johnstone also placed first the 100-yard breaststroke, after touching the pad at 1:05.56. Freshman Elizabeth Law (Chester Springs, Pa.) took seventh (1:10.69) in the event, while Bendfeldt followed in eighth at 1:11.37.

Sophomore Karis Fuller (London, England) won the 100-yard backstroke in 56.37, which was good for an NCAA "B" cut. Additionally, she teamed up with LiCausi, Sparrman and sophomore Eline Swensen (Langhus, Norway) for a second-place showing (8:30.53) in the 800-yard freestyle relay.

Swensen added a sixth-place finish of 1:57.76 in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Elin Kvarnemar (Varberg, Sweden) and freshman Cassie St. Angelo (Wakefield, R.I.) came in seventh in the 100-back (1:00.49) and 100-fly (1:03.94), respectively. Junior Jacqueline Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) was ninth in the 100-fly, clocking a 1:04.45.

Head Coach Michael Travers and his LIU Post squad will now vie for their fifth-straight Metropolitan Conference Championship from Feb. 17-19 in Piscataway, N.J.
