Baseball Drops 10-3 Decision at Adelphi
Box Score
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Mar. 21, 2017) - The LIU Post baseball team fell to Adelphi University by a 10-3 final in a non-conference showdown Tuesday afternoon at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
Despite allowing the game's opening run, the Pioneers (8-8) responded with a two-run homer in the second inning by senior catcher
Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) to take the lead.
However, the Panthers (9-6) fired back with nine unanswered runs to pull away for the victory. Senior infielder Zack Levinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) put the hosts in front for good with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the second.
The green and gold got one of those runs back in the seventh on a
Zach Fritz (East Meadow, N.Y.) sacrifice fly, but that was as close as the Pioneers came to making a comeback.
Red-shirt sophomore pitcher
Robert Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss for LIU Post. He allowed five hits, four earned runs and two walks and struck out two in three innings of work.
Senior pitcher
Brian Tinney (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and freshman pitcher
Pat McCabe (North Babylon, N.Y.) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
Head Coach
Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers return to action Friday (Mar. 24), when they open East Coast Conference against St. Thomas Aquinas College at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
