HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Mar. 29, 2017) - The LIU Post baseball team lost a hard-fought 3-1 decision to Division I program Hofstra University on Wednesday afternoon at University Field in Hempstead.

The Pioneers (10-11) seemed poised for the upset, after sophomore infielder Sal Geraci (Bayport, N.Y.) gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage with a one-out RBI sacrifice fly to left in the third.

His sacrifice fly plated junior outfielder Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.), who reached on a fielder's choice and subsequently stole back-to-back bases to get into scoring position.

However, the Pride (7-16) answered with a two-run fourth to grab a 2-1 lead. Sophomore catcher Vito Friscia (Valley Stream, N.Y.) came home on a throwing error to put Hofstra in front for good.

In the eighth, LIU Post stirred up a two-out rally and put the tying run on base, but sophomore outfielder Dave Brehm (Bohemia, N.Y.) struck out swinging to end the threat.

Senior pitcher Chris Anderson (West Islip, N.Y.) made the start for the Pioneers, allowing three hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks with one strikeout in 3.1 innings of work.

Red-shirt sophomore pitcher Robert Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) tossed 3.2 frames of scoreless relief. He yielded only three hits and fanned three batters.

Senior outfielder Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) and sophomore first baseman Anthony Vaglica (Franklin Square, N.Y.) each recorded two hits in the loss for the green and gold.

Head Coach Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers return to action Saturday (Apr. 1), when they host East Coast Conference foe Mercy College at noon at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville.
