ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 10, 2017) - The LIU Post softball team fell by slight 2-1 and 3-2 counts to Molloy College in an East Coast Conference doubleheader Monday at Bob Klein Field.

The losses dropped the Pioneers to 14-14 overall and 3-5 in league play. Meanwhile, the Lions improved to 16-12 and 6-4 against ECC opposition.

Game #1: LIU Post 1, Molloy 2
In the opener, the Pioneers got the scoring started with a run in the top of the third.

After back-to-back hits by Allie Laird (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Ashley Casazza (Wantagh, N.Y.) to open the inning, sophomore catcher Julia Seader (Piscataway, N.J.) hit an RBI ground-rule double to put the visitors on the board.

However, the Lions answered right back with two runs in their half of the third to take the lead. The hosts capitalized on back-to-back infield errors in the frame and eventually went in front on an RBI double by Milan Botte (San Diego, Calif.).

The green and gold nearly rallied to tie the score with two outs in the fifth, but freshman outfielder Abbey Fortin (Langley, British Columbia, Canada) flied out to end a first-and-third threat.

Sophomore pitcher Hannah Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) was tagged with the loss in the decision. She threw six innings of five-hit, two-run (one earned), one-walk, three-strikeout ball.

Game #2: LIU Post 2, Molloy 3
The Pioneers drew first blood again in the nightcap, plating a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on back-to-back solo homers by Seader and Fortin.

The Lions clawed back though. Botte launched a solo blast in the fourth, while sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Snyder (Smithtown, N.Y.) hit a go-ahead two-run homer down the left-field line in the fifth.

The LIU Post bats were retired in order in four of the seven innings in the latter contest. Additionally, the Pioneers put only one runner in scoring position in the game.

In the circle, freshman pitcher Katie Humhej (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) let up three hits, three runs and three walks and struck out five in six innings of work.

Head Coach Jamie Apicella and the Pioneers are back at it Tuesday (Apr. 11), when they host No. 25 Caldwell University in a non-conference twinbill at 2:30 p.m. at the LIU Post Softball Complex in Brookville.
