Women's Tennis Loses Spring Opener to Adelphi, 6-3

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 14, 2017) - The LIU Post women's tennis team opened its spring season Friday with a 6-3 loss to Adelphi University at the LIU Post Tennis Courts in Brookville.
The Pioneers (6-4) earned all three of their victories in singles play. Sophomore 
Lara Scholtze (Bad Homburg, Germany) won a 7-4, 6-5 straight-set decision over Rebecca Fakas (Little Neck, N.Y.) at the No. 1 flight.
In the third-singles position, sophomore 
Stanislava Klymova (Dnipro, Ukraine) took the first set by a 7-5 count, before Karen Serina (East Islip, N.Y.) retired to pick up the win.
Junior 
Meagan Byrne (Deer Parrk, N.Y.) defeated Daniella Cattabiani (Bayside, N.Y.) by identical 6-2 counts at No. 6 singles.
Meanwhile, sophomore 
Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) lost a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 contest to Elizabeth Kallenberg (Port Washington, N.Y.) in the second-singles flight.
In doubles competition, Scholtze and freshman 
Charlotte Hynes (Weston, Fla.) fell 8-3 to Kallenberg and Samantha Perri (Floral Park, N.Y.) at the No. 2 position.
Byrne and senior 
Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) came up short in an 8-4 loss against Vanja Savic (Woodside, N.Y.) and Cattabiani at third doubles.
Head Coach 
Walter Giacometti and his LIU Post squad return to action Saturday (Apr. 15), when they host Wilmington University in their 2016-17 finale at the LIU Post Tennis Courts in Brookville. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
