FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 5, 2017) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post baseball team came from behind to secure a 6-5 victory over East Coast Conference foe Queens College at Hennekens Stadium in Flushing.
The Pioneers (12-11, 4-2 ECC) got out to a fast start in the contest, tallying three runs in the first to grab an early 3-0 advantage.
Sophomore catcher
Anthony Vaglica (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and sophomore third baseman
Jimmy Mendyk (Massapequa, N.Y.) were both hit by a pitch to plate a run in the inning, while senior first baseman
Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) drew a run-scoring walk.
The green and gold eventually led 4-2 at the midway point of the contest, before Queens (7-11, 1-5 ECC) went in front in the bottom of the sixth.
However, the Pioneers fought back with a run in each of the final two innings to re-claim the lead for good.
In the eighth, sophomore second baseman
Sal Geraci (Bayport, N.Y.) laced a game-tying, two-out RBI single to score Asbaty from second.
Then, in the ninth, the visitors got more two-out magic to complete the comeback.
Junior outfielder
Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.), who led off the frame with a single up the middle, came home for the eventual game-winning run on an infield error by the Knights.
Freshman pitcher
