BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's swimming team was victorious in nine of 11 events against Sienna College, taking down the Saints 123-79 inside the Pratt Natatorium Jan. 13.
Senior
Laura Bendfeldt, junior
Karis Fuller, and sophomore
Tove Sparrman were all triple-winners against the Saints, combining for five individual wins and two relay victories. The trio along with junior
Caitlin Johnstone led off the meet with a win in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:44.46.
Bendfeldt continued her dominance by earning the win in the 50 freestyle in 23.90, out dueling sophomore teammate
Jessica Argelander who touched in 25.94. The senior earned her final victory during the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.99.
Fuller took home her second win of the afternoon during the 200-individual medley, clocking a time of 2:10.70. Johnstone finished just behind in second place with a time of 2:15.66. The British native wrapped up her day with a 57.82 time in the 100 backstroke, good enough for another first-place finish. Freshman
Britney Caprio took second in the same event, touching in at 1:01.70.
In the 200 freestyle, Sparrman clocked a time of 1:56.98 to earn first place, while sophomore
Elizabeth Law added a second-place finish at 2:01.41 and freshman
Emily Shoup added a third-place finish in 2:02.83. Law later earned an individual victory of her own, taking the top spot in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.85, edging out sophomore teammate
Cassie St. Angelo by .16 second.
Junior
Eline Swensen earned the Pioneers' final individual win of the day, taking first in the 1000 freestyle in 11:02.20.
LIU Post closed out the meet with a victory in the 400-freestyle relay as Sparrman, Caprio, St. Angelo, and freshman
Allison Schillick combined for a time of 3:43.83.
With the victory, LIU Post improves to 4-1 on the season, while Sienna slips to 2-4.
The Pioneers return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they host Assumption College inside the Pratt Natatorium at 1:00 p.m.
