RESULTS
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The LIU Post swimming team had an excellent meet Saturday afternoon at Kutztown University, earning two wins in dual meets against the host Golden Bears and Millersville University Jan. 27.
The Pioneers continued their success in dual meets this season, winning 154-103 against Kutztown, and 170-79 over Millersville, improving their record to 7-1.
LIU Post got out to a strong start, earning a win in the day's first event, as senior
Laura Bendfeldt, junior
Caitlin Johnstone, sophomore
Tove Sparrman, and freshman
Karis Fuller touched the pad in 1:49.30 in the 200 medley relay. Junior
Eline Swensen continued the winning ways when she took first in the 200 freestyle at 2:03.57, recording the second of 12 first-place finishes during the meet's 14 events.
Fuller earned her second win of the day by besting the competition with a time of 58.21 seconds in the 100 backstroke, and sophomore
Cassie St. Angelo out touched the competition with a time of 2:15.80 during the 200 butterfly. The Pioneers dominated the 50 freestyle, taking the top three spots within .8 second, with Bendfeldt earning the win in 25.03 seconds, while Johnstone took second at 25.29 and sophomore
Jessica Argelander right behind at 25.81 seconds.
Sparmann notched another win during the 100 freestyle, beating out Argelander for the top position in 54.99 seconds. The Green and Gold continued to roll during the 200 breaststroke, as Johnstone recorded her second win of the afternoon with a time of 2:30.13. Freshman
Emily Shoup swam past the competition during the 500 freestyle, touching the wall at 5:25.84, seven seconds faster than the competition. St. Angelo took home victory number two during the 100 butterfly, recording a time of 1:00.75. Sparrman earned the final individual victory for the Pioneers, taking first in the 200 individual medley with a five-second gap at 2:13.50.
LIU Post closed out the meet with its final first-place finish, when Bendfeldt, Sparrman, Argelander, and Johnstone earned a three-second victory during the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:40.45.
The Pioneers return to action in three weeks at the Metropolitan Conference Championships, Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18.
