OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Along with recording a season-high 88 digs for the third time this season the LIU Post women's volleyball team defeated the New York Institute of Technology 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21) Wednesday night inside Recreation Hall, sweeping the Battle of the Boulevard season series against the Bears.
The Pioneers only dropped one set against the Bears in 2018 as they defeated them 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-14) on Sept. 12 inside the Pratt Recreation Center.
LIU Post tied its season-high in digs as it also recorded 88 against the University of New Haven on Oct. 2 and LeMoyne University on Sept. 1.
Along with holding an advantage in digs the Pioneers also had a 54-53 advantage in kills, a 50-47 advantage in assists, a 6-4 advantage in blocks and a 5-4 advantage in service aces.
The win moved the Green & Gold to 13-9 on the season and 5-3 in East Coast Conference play.

Lauren Kloos opened the match with a kill the Pioneers and Bears traded points early; with the score tied 4-4 a kill by senior

Samantha Colombo and a NYIT ball handling error helped the Pioneers take a 13-11 lead. The set continued to be a back-and-forth battle with an emphatic block by sophomore
Asiya Way giving LIU Post a 19-17 lead. LIU Post closed the set out on a high note as the Pioneers ended on a 4-0 run to win 25-21.
The Bears took the early advantage in the second set as they raced out to a 6-2 lead however the Pioneers battled back to make it a tightly-contested set. With NYIT up 9-7 LIU Post used a 6-0 run that featured kills by Ridgeway and Colombo along with four Bear attacking errors to take a 12-9 lead. The Pioneers and Bears continued trading points throughout the set until a Ridgeway kill from an assist by senior
Giulia Genna gave LIU Post a 24-21 lead and an emphatic kill by Colombo saw the Green & Gold win the set 25-22.
The third set began much like the first two as the Pioneers and Bears traded points; with LIU Post up 10-9 NYIT went on a 6-0 run and took a 14-10 lead. The Bears maintained their lead but when up 17-14 LIU Post a kill by Londot from an assist by junior
Kassie Akouri-Tejedor keyed a 4-0 run that also featured kills by Ridgeway and Brady along with an NYIT attacking error that tied the score 17-17. NYIT responded with a 5-0 run and won the set 25-20.
A 5-0 run early in the fourth set that featured three Londot kills, an Akouri-Tejedor kill and a NYIT attacking error gave LIU Post a 6-3 lead in the early stages. While the Bears won the next two points LIU Post maintained its lead throughout the set; up 7-6 LIU Post went on a 4-0 run that featured kills by Londot, Colombo and freshman
Aleaha Mokamba along with a NYIT attacking error. The Green & Gold never trailed in the set and went on to win 25-21 with a kill by Brady on match point.
Top Performers
- Londot had a double-double with team-high 17 kills and 17 digs
- Akouri-Tejedor handed out a team-high 25 assists and had a match-high three service aces
- Junior Abby Eckhardt had a team-high 20 digs
