Women’s Swimming Wins Four Events at Sacred Heart Tri-Meet

Fuller wins three individual events and leads off first-place finishing 200 medley relay

MILFORD, CONN. –
The LIU Post women's swimming team won three individual events and one relay when it opened its season against a pair of NCAA Division I opponents, Sacred Heart University and Central Connecticut State University, at the Sacred Heart Tri-Meet inside the McCann Natatorium Saturday.
 
"This team had an incredibly emotional week but pulled together and swam for each other today," said head coach Kristen Foley. "I'm so proud of them."
 
Pioneer Relays
LIU Post started the meet off on a high note as it won the 200-yard medley relay; the team of seniors Karis Fuller, Caitlin Johnstone, Tove Sparrman and junior Jessica Argelander clocked in at 1:49.66 seconds as they finished in first-place.
 
In the 400 freestyle relay the team of Sparrman, Argelander, freshman Emily Shoup and sophomore Gena Mendez finished third with a time of 3:45.60 seconds.
 
Top Individual Performances
Along with leading off the 200 medley relay, Fuller won three individual events. She placed first in the 100 backstroke after touching the wall at 56.62, an NCAA 'B' cut. Fuller also won the 200 backstroke in 2:04.90 seconds and the 200 IM in 2:09.45 seconds.
 
In the 1000 freestyle Mendez finished second with a time of 11:02.19 seconds; she also took third in the 200 butterfly after touching the wall at 2"20.34 seconds.
 
Sparmann finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:25.11 seconds while her time of 2:00.95 seconds saw her finish third in the 200 freestyle
 
In the 200 breaststroke Johnstone finished second in 2:34.38 seconds; she also took fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.90 seconds and fifth in the 50 freestyle in 25.85.
 
Argelander finished fourth in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle in 55.89 and 25.51.
 
Freshman Emily Shoup finished fourth in the 500 freestyle inn 5:30.93 seconds while freshman Ashley Pereira had a pair of personal-best times after touching the wall at 26.23 in the 50 freestyle to finish sixth and 1:06.91 seconds in the 100 butterfly to finish seventh.
