Women's Bowling Captures Two Victories at SHU Bowl for the Cure Event

EAST HAVEN, Conn. – The LIU Post women's bowling team opened its 2018-19 campaign at the Sacred Heart Bowl for the Cure tournament Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21.

The Green and Gold finished 2-3 in the team format event, upending Caldwell University and No. 14 LIU Brooklyn. Sophomore Emily Cavanaugh led the Pioneers with a 900 series over the five matches, while freshman Rhianna Smith opened her career with an 875 series. Sophomore Patricia Kelly also posted a strong performance, notching a 175.2 game average with a team-best 211 during the opener against Caldwell.

The Pioneers recorded their best team score of the weekend during the opening game against the Wildcats, using three scores over 175 to post a 913-827 victory. The momentum was halted slightly against Molloy College when LIU Post tallied an 838 but came up short as the Lions posted an 881 team score. The Pioneers looked to bounce back against No. 11 Sacred Heart University but a big 10th frame by the opposition handed LIU Post an 892-873 setback. Smith rolled her high game for the weekend against the Pioneers, recording a 198.

It was a big bounce back, however, in game four when the Green and Gold held off the nationally-ranked Blackbirds, 824-818. Cavanaugh posted her best scored of the weekend with a 192 to help take down LIU Brooklyn for the team's second victory of the weekend. The weekend closed out with a tough battle to No. 12 Adelphi University as LIU Post notched an 857 game, but it was not enough to get by the highest opposing score of the event as the Panthers tallied a 913 to earn the victory.

LIU Post returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Kutztown University Dual Matches.
