THE FIRST LOOK

The LIU Post men's soccer team (12-4, 7-2 ECC) captured the No. 2 seed and a home playoff game in the East Coast Conference tournament after posting a 7-2 record in league play this season. The Pioneers closed out the regular season with four-consecutive victories after suffering setbacks to Wilmington University and Mercy College.

Queens (10-4-2, 6-2-1 ECC) enters the postseason as the No. 3 seed with a 6-2-1 record in conference play. The Knights have not lost in October, finishing the regular season on a 6-0-1 stretch to clinch a postseason berth for the first time since the 2011 season.

INSIDE THE SERIES

During the 13 previous meetings, LIU Post leads the head-to-head series 10-2-1. Despite the historical advantage, Queens bested the Pioneers in the previous matchup on Sept. 26 by a 2-1 final in a game played at New York Institute of Technology's President's Stadium. Romario Hulea scored twice in 52 seconds for the Knights in what proved to be the difference in the contest.

SCOUTING REPORT

LIU Post

All eyes will be on the 6-4 graduate student forward Lukas Ostermann on Wednesday as the second-year Pioneers currently leads the country in goals (22) and points (50). Ostermann is two goals away from matching the LIU Post program record set by Elvind Austobe in 2013. This season Ostermann has scored at least one goal in 14 of the team's 16 games, including the lone strike against Queens on Sept. 26.

As a team the Pioneers are averaging 2.50 goals per game, second-best in the ECC. The Pioneers have not been held scoreless in a game this season, and have been held to just one goal on three occasions. Defensively, the Green and Gold boast six shutouts on the year, holding opponents to just over one goal per game. Senior goalkeeper Oliver Hessner Hansen leads the conference with an .815 save percentage and ranks second with a 0.97 goals-against average.

LIU Post has dominated on its home soil in 2018, finishing the regular season with a 6-0 mark, outscoring opponents 21-7 at Pioneer Soccer Park.

Queens

The Knights have posted similar offensive numbers, scoring 2.25 goals per game this season. The offensive attack is led by Saufyane Ilboudo with eight goals, while András Breuer and Hulea have added seven and six goals, respectively.

Four different players have seen action in goal this season, but expect to see Michael Bolvin get the nod on Wednesday. Bolvin will eclipse 1,000 minutes between the pipes this season during the contest, allowing just 10 goals for a 0.91 goals-against average. The junior keeper has compiled an 8-2-1 record on the year after transferring from ASA College.

Like the Pioneers, Queens has posted six shutouts on the year, allowing one goal or less 10 times. The defensive efforts of the Knights will be the key to their success as they attempt to slow down the Pioneer offense.
