Fuller Wins 100 Backstroke, 200 IM at ECAC Winter Championships

Pioneers remain atop standings of non-division I programs

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. –
Senior Karis Fuller had an outstanding second day at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Winter Championships as she earned first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke Saturday inside the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The LIU Post women's swimming team maintained their spot atop the standings of non-division I programs with 312 points and sit eighth out of 17 teams overall.
 
Fuller earned a first-place finish of 91 swimmers and earned an NCAA "B" cut in the 200 IM after touching the wall at 2:04.83 seconds in the morning session. In the evening session she finished first out of 80 swimmers in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.07, also an NCAA "B" cut.
 
Junior Alex Cordova also competed in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:21.37 seconds to finish 66th.
 
The Pioneers had a pair of top-10 finishers in the 500 freestyle; senior Tove Sarrman and sophomore Emily Shoup finished eighth and ninth with times of 5:09.69 seconds and 5:10.81 seconds respectively.
 
Junior Jessica Argelander finished 12th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.53 and the Pioneers ended the morning session by finishing tenth in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Argelander, Sparrman, sophomore Britney Caprio and Fuller finished in 1:39.40 seconds.
 
Argelander opened the evening session with a personal-best time of 1:01.23 seconds in the 100 butterfly that saw her finished 42nd out of 89 swimmers. Sparrman finished 12th out of 101 swimmers in the 200 freestyle after touching the wall at 1:55.61 seconds while Shoup's time of 2:00.12 seconds saw her take 39th.
 
In the 100 breaststroke junior Elizabeth Law clocked in at 1:10.67 seconds to finished 42nd out of 79 swimmers. Caprio's time of 1:01.39 seconds in the 100 backstroke saw her finish 26th while freshman Lauren Beyer took 34th in 1:01.99 seconds. Sophomore Lola Pyros finished 65th in a time of 1:07.00 seconds and Jonna Pyros finished 70th in 1:09.32 seconds.
 
The Pioneers ended the night with a sixth-place finish in the 400 medley relay after Fuller, Law, Sparrman and Argelander posted a time of 3:58.14 seconds
