Fuller wins 200 backstroke, Pioneers end as top-finishing non-division I team

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. –
The LIU Post women's swimming team ended the 2018 Eastern College Athletic Conference Winter Championships on a high note as senior Karis Fuller won the 200-yard backstroke Sunday at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.  With 386 points LIU Post was the highest-finishing non-division I program and the Pioneers finished ninth out of 17 teams overall.

 Fuller ended the meet with 96 points, the second-highest of any swimmer. Senior Tove Sparrman and sophomore Emily Shoup each finished with 44 points, junior Jessica Argelander had 31.

 Fuller's time of 1:59.99 seconds in the 200 backstroke, an NCAA "B" cut, saw her earn her third first-place finish of the meet.

Sophomore Jessica Argelander posted a personal-best time of 53.33 in the 100 that saw her finish 11th out of 132 swimmers. Sparrman clocked in at 53.95 to finish 18th and sophomore Emily Shoup finished 45th in 55.69.

The Pioneers ended the day with the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Argelander, junior Elizabeth Law, sophomore Britney Caprio and Shoup finished 17th out of 33 teams with a time of 3:43.62 seconds.
