BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in its East Coast Conference opener against Molloy College, downing the Lions by a 59-46 final inside the Pratt Recreation Center on Wednesday, Dec. 5.
Graduate student
Sasha Patterson posted 12 of her 14 points during the first half on a perfect 6-of-6 effort from the field to help LIU Post hold a lead for the entirety of the opening 20 minutes. Despite shooting just 5-of-51 from beyond the arc in its previous three contests, LIU Post knocked down three three-point field goals in the first half, including two triples from redshirt-junior
Taylah Hudson. The Green and Gold closed the half on a 17-9 burst, ending the period on a made layup by Patterson at the final buzzer to enter the intermission with a 34-25 advantage.
A seven-point advantage carried into the fourth quarter until the Lions drilled a jump shot just 14 seconds into the period. A 7-0 run by LIU Post pushed the lead back up to 12 points and Molloy could never recover.
Hudson and Patterson led the Pioneers with 14 points each, while senior
Shannon Doyle chipped in 12 tallies. Patterson recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds and Hudson, along with Doyle and redshirt-junior
Robyn Francis each contributed four assists. The Pioneers shot 44-percent (24-55) from the field and a season-best 39-percent (7-18) from beyond the arc.
The Green and Gold return to action in its first road test since Nov. 11 when the Pioneers travel to Queens College on Saturday, Dec. 8 for a 1:30 p.m. tip-off with the Knights.
