CARY, N.C. – Junior
Jimmy Mendyk racked up four hits and sophomore
Julien Arcos took care of the rest on the mound as the LIU Post baseball team took down Dominican College 9-2 in its final game at the Division II Challenge vs. Cancer games March 11.
Mendyk finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, adding three runs batted in and a double to lead the Pioneers offensively. Junior

Ramger Iglesias added an RBI-double to cap off a two-run third inning.
On the mound, Arcos scattered five hits over seven innings of work, striking out five along the way. Senior
Brian Tinney and sophomore
Greg Haynes added scoreless innings in relief to help the Pioneers move two games above .500 in the early part of the season.
The Chargers jumped ahead in the first on an LIU Post error, but Arcos settled in nicely following the miscue, retiring the next seven batters in order. In the bottom of the first inning, the Pioneers leveled the scoring on a one-out single by Vaglica, and later took a 3-1 lead on two unearned runs. The Green and Gold continued to roll at the plate, scoring once in the second on an RBI-double by Vaglica and plated two more in the third on doubles by Mendyk and Iglesias.
After a few scoreless frames, Dominican plated a run on an RBI-single by
Joe Rotelli, but it was the final run the Pioneers allowed. Vaglica roped his second double of the day in the eighth inning to spark a three-run outburst as the Pioneers pulled away for the 9-2 victory.
LIU Post is scheduled to make its season debut on Monday, March 19 following a week off from competition when they host Adelphi University at 3:30 p.m.
