BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Pioneers continued to roll in East Coast Conference play as the No. 6/8 LIU Post women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Bridgeport 15-2 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium April 4.
The Pioneer defense allowed just one goal during each half, holding Bridgeport to just 16 shots for the day. Senior
Olivia Kirk made six saves on the day to earn the win, while sophomore
Jill Hummel added one save in relief.
On the offensive end, sophomore
Alyssa Mallery tallied a team-best five goals and classmate
Brianna Feldman added four goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Despite scoring 15 goals, junior
Mackenzie Hitchcock added the lone assist for the Pioneers.
LIU Post opened the game on a 9-0 run, holding Bridgeport scoreless until the 6:40 mark of the first half. The Purple Knight tally proved to be the final strike of the first half, and the Pioneers took a 9-1 lead into halftime. The second half began much the same as the first, with the Green and Gold depositing the first six goals of the stanza before Bridgeport tallied the game's final goal at the 8:53 mark.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, April 7 in one of six home games scheduled on campus when they host No. 2/3 Adelphi University as part of its third annual Play for a Cure game.
