BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's lacrosse team secured a spot in the East Coast Conference championship game after a convincing 20-6 victory against Molloy College May 3 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
With the win, the Pioneers advance to Saturday's title game and will take on No. 2 seed Mercy College at 12:00 p.m. at President's Stadium on the campus of the New York Institute of Technology.
LIU Post dominated throughout the duration of the contest, holding a 37-18 advantage in shots and committed just five turnovers for the game. Sophomore
Brianna Feldman led all scorers with five goals, while classmate
Alyssa Mallery chipped in for goals. Fellow sophomore
Sara Stephens notched three goals and classmates
Jamie Alvino and
Paige Sherlock along with junior
Trish Brisotti netted two goals apiece.
It took just 41 seconds for the Pioneers to take the lead when Mallery scored the opening goal of the contest. Molloy answered with two quick goals but it was not enough to slow down LIU Post, as the Pioneers built a 7-3 lead during the first 13 minutes.
The Green and Gold eventually stretched the lead to 10-4 with 7:35 remaining in the half, a lead that remained until the halftime break. The Pioneers dominated on both ends in the second half, however, holding Molloy to just seven shots. The Pioneers scored the final eight goals of the contest to run away with the lead, taking down the Lions 20-8.
