BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Seniors Tarryn Morris and Emilly Miller scored during the final 10 minutes of regulation to help the LIU Post field hockey team come from behind to defeat Saint Anselm College, 2-1 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The duo helped the Pioneers overcome a one-goal deficit during the second half to earn their third-consecutive victory, improving to 3-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play this season. Saint Anselm drops to 0-1 in NE10 action with the loss.

The opening 35 minutes was a defensive battle for both sides, featuring just five combined shot attempts, though the Pioneers garnered six penalty corners to just one for the Hawks. Sophomore Sammy Bell and Miller each tallied shots that were turned away by Saint Anselm goalkeeper Julia Hand. Sophomore Rachel Vellis posted three saves for the Green and Gold as the contest remained scoreless through halftime.

Carly LaCasse opened the scoring during the 43rd minute of action, causing a turnover inside the circle and firing a shot inside the left post to give Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead early in the second half. The Pioneers continued to generate opportunities on the offensive end, earning two penalty corners during the 25 minutes of the period but could not get a shot on target on either opportunity.

Senior Molly Cunha halted the Saint Anselm momentum when she got behind the defense for a breakaway opportunity late in the half and drew a foul inside the circle to set up a penalty stroke for the Pioneers. Morris leveled the scoring when she buried the ensuing stroke in the top left corner of the cage for her third goal of the season.

Moments later, Miller garnered possession and carried the ball down the right side of the field and ripped a shot on the run to the far post, beating Hand for the second Pioneer goal in less than six minutes to give the Green and Gold the lead for good.

It will be a week off before the Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 on the road at Saint Michael's College for an 11:00 a.m. matchup with the Purple Knights at Christopher M. Duffy Field.
