Fuller Wins Three Events, Women’s Swimming Finishes Fifth at Mets

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Karis Fuller made sure her last Metropolitan Championship meet was one to remember as she won three events and the LIU post women's swimming team finished fifth out of 16 teams Sunday inside the Rutgers Aquatic Center.
 
The Pioneers earned 650 points and had 16 top-10 finishes, highlighted by Fuller's wins in the 200 IM, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. With 96 points she tied for the most points at the meet.

 Pioneer Relays
Fuller, senior Caitlin Johnstone, senior Tove Sparrman and junior Elizabeth Law earned a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47. 15 seconds.
 
LIU Post took fifth in the 200 freestyle relay; the team of Fuller, Johnstone, sophomore Britney Caprio and Sparrman posted a time of 1:39.74 seconds.
 
In the 400 freestyle relay, LIU Post also finished fifth after Sparrman, Law, Caprio and sophomore Emily Shoup clocked in at 3:38.78 seconds.

Top Individual Performers
Fuller earned first-place finishes in three events.  She won the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.44 seconds, the 100 backstroke in 55.48 and touched the wall at 2:00.73 seconds to win the 200 backstroke. Her times in the 100 and 200 backstroke were NCAA 'B' standard qualifying times.
 
Along with Fuller's win the 100 backstroke, Caprio took fifth in 1:00.34 seconds and freshman Lauren Beyer touched the wall at 1:01.82 seconds to finish 17th. In the 200 backstroke, Caprio finished 10th in 2:12.74 seconds and Beyer finished 16th in 2:18.06 seconds.
 
Shoup had an impressive meet and earned a second-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:38.28 seconds. In the 500 freestyle Sparrman and Shoup finished third and fourth respectively with times of 5:09.81 seconds and 5:12.87 seconds. The duo also finished fifth and eighth in the 200 freestyle after finishing in 1:57.66 seconds and 2:00.83 seconds. In the 100 freestyle, Sparrman posted a time of 54.16 to finish fifth while Law took 11th in 54.83.
 
LIU Post had four top-20 finishers in the 50 freestyle as Law touched the wall at 25.02 to finish 10th, Caprio finished 13th in 25.47,  Johnstone took 18th in 25.24 and freshman Ashley Pereira finished 19th in 25.44. Pereira also finished 18th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.73.
 
Johnstone and sophomore Alex Cordova posted times of 2:31.62 seconds and 2:38.22 seconds in the 200 breastsroke to finish 10th and 18th.
